Abstract:Computing power infrastructure can establish a robust foundation for enabling all individuals to partake in the prosperity of the digital era and serves as a pivotal support for solidly advancing common prosperity. Utilizing panel data from 254 cities at or above the prefecture level in China spanning from 2012 to 2024, this study meticulously examines the impact and mechanisms through which computing power infrastructure construction influences common prosperity. The findings reveal that the construction of computing power infrastructure significantly and positively contributes to the promotion of common prosperity. The results of the mediating effect test indicate that computing power infrastructure construction can substantially foster common prosperity by driving the development of artificial intelligence. The heterogeneity test results demonstrate that the empowering effect of computing power infrastructure construction on common prosperity exhibits distinct characteristics, namely "Eastern region > Central region > Western region," "Southeastern region > Northwestern region," and "High digital economy level > Low digital economy level." The threshold test results confirm that the impact of computing power infrastructure construction on common prosperity displays a notable double-threshold effect, characterized by a progressively increasing nonlinear pattern. Based on these conclusions, this paper proposes recommendations to expedite the construction of a nationwide integrated computing power network, promote the innovative application of key core technologies in artificial intelligence, and establish distinctive computing power centers tailored to regional resource endowments, with the aim of providing valuable insights for fostering substantive progress in common prosperity.
